On June 27, 2023, we hosted the “Women Like Me” panel discussion and networking event, dedicated to empowering and supporting women of color in STEM fields across Australia. This gathering united a diverse group of accomplished professionals who shared their personal journeys, challenges, and successes, offering invaluable insights and inspiration for women pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Taking place from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at ACS Victoria, attendees enjoyed an engaging evening filled with enriching conversations and community-building activities. Our exceptional panel featured speakers from various sectors within the STEM industry, providing a comprehensive perspective on the opportunities and challenges faced by women of color.
Throughout the panel discussion, speakers addressed essential topics such as overcoming imposter syndrome, navigating workplace dynamics, and balancing personal and professional life. They also shared practical advice on forging unique career paths and distinguishing oneself in a competitive job market. Following the panel, a Q&A session allowed attendees to interact directly with the panellists and seek guidance on their specific challenges and aspirations.
After the Q&A, the networking session provided a valuable opportunity for participants to connect with the speakers and fellow women of color in STEM. This interactive environment fostered community, encouraging the formation of professional relationships, mentorships, and potential collaborations.
