Science in the Streets of Sydney: Soapbox Science and STEM Sisters Bring Research to the Public
Soapbox Science is a global initiative that promotes and showcases the work of women scientists to break down the barriers that prevent women from entering and progressing in science careers. The format involves female scientists standing on a soapbox in a public area and giving short talks on their research to engage with the public in a fun and informative way. Soapbox Science events also provide an opportunity for female scientists to network and connect with others in their field, as well as gain experience in science communication.
STEM Sisters are the official partners in delivering the Soapbox Science Sydney event starting in 2024 during the Australian National Science Week.

For Speakers: Soapbox Science Sydney is looking for dynamic women or a nonbinary individual in STEM who are passionate about their research and keen to communicate it to a broader audience. Our unique no-frills platform at Circular Quay offers the perfect backdrop to engage with the public, free from the constraints of lecture halls. Whether you’re a seasoned researcher or a budding scientist at the start of your career, we invite you to apply. This is an unparalleled opportunity to enhance your visibility, refine your communication skills, and inspire the public with your work.
For Volunteers: Volunteers play a pivotal role in the smooth execution of Soapbox Science, from event promotions and audience engagement to supporting our speakers. Your enthusiasm and dedication are what make this event possible. Volunteering with Soapbox Science is an excellent way to contribute to the community, network with scientists and science enthusiasts, and support gender equality in STEM fields.
