Our Impact
At STEM Sisters, we believe that real change is measurable, visible, and inclusive. Since our inception, we’ve been committed to empowering culturally and racially marginalised women in STEM across Australia. Our impact reports showcase the tangible outcomes of our programs, partnerships, and advocacy efforts — demonstrating how we are driving equity and systemic change in STEM.
Why Our Impact Matters
Women of colour in Australia face unique and often overlooked barriers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), shaped not only by gender but also by racial and cultural marginalisation. This includes women born overseas (who are Black, Brown, Asian, or any other non-white identity facing systemic marginalisation), second-generation migrants, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women groups that continue to experience systemic disadvantage. Although comprehensive data is limited, the 2020 Office of the Chief Scientist’s report highlights significantly higher STEM unemployment rates.
At STEM Sisters, we respond to these challenges through tailored initiatives that provide leadership development, mentoring, and professional networking. We champion visibility by celebrating achievements through awards and publications and creating pathways for the next generation of diverse STEM leaders. Our work also includes fostering inclusive workplaces through strategic partnerships with industry, academia, and government. Each year, we reflect on our impact, measure progress, and share the stories of the women we support, amplifying their voices and driving meaningful, lasting change.
