Awareness of Opportunities
Perhaps the single quality that differentiates a solid from a highly successful career is opportunity awareness. Achievers are over-represented among the ranks of those who are not only able to spot opportunities that others miss, they act on those opportunities where others prevaricate or decline.
Opportunities are generally gifted by other people. A new role, responsibility, a loan, grant or business opportunity may come to those who invest their time in connecting with the right network. To encourage our STEM women of colour community to increase their opportunity awareness of STEM related opportunities in Australia we created a Linkedin group , “STEM Sisters – Increase Awareness of Opportunities”, we have currently 450+ members and is growing.
We aggregate job advertisements for STEM occupations from a variety of sources, including job boards, multi-poster pages, and recruitment agencies. Through our exclusive shared network, we also disseminate information on job openings, as well as other resources and economic opportunities such as grant applications, that would otherwise go unnoticed, ensuring that our members are better informed when these opportunities occur.
Members of our exclusive network have access to leverage the connections of other members, get recommendations, seek collaborations on proposals, and more in-depth information on opportunities directly from the source, thereby boosting their chances of success
